Marcello was born in Australia of Italian parents, father Franco from Reggio Emilia and mother
Anna Francesca (Francis) from Reggio Calabria. They used to call him “Marcellino”.
His father came out like all others, with one suitcase and the shoes he was wearing and resided in Sydney and his mother came out with his nonna and resided in Victoria. They met on nonna’s strawberry and carrot farm in Wandin Vic and the rest is history.
Traditional family expectations saw Marcello move into the family farm (including milking the Jersey cow Betsy everyday) and working in their earthmoving business.
Later in life, a major life and death accident occurred which he has never fully recovered from. This sparked a huge change in the direction of his life. This was to be creative – to be an artist. This was the start of a new era of his life!
Marcello travelled extensively in Europe and the Middle East, visiting his family, major art galleries and museums as well as investigating the textures of different cultures and religions. He developed a huge interest in symbolism, spirituality and monasteries.
His love for nature, plants, animals and mother earth has never left him. Utilizing many organic fibers (which he has grown himself) and recycled materials, he responds consciously with the environment to create organic expressions from the tools he loves the best – his hands.
Marcello is a worldly, open-minded artist, with a particular love of the techniques involved in creating traditional renaissance art. He is also regularly inspired to create other types of works, from abstract, to graffiti art and organic handmade creations.
His life and work reflects and synthesizes a spiritual and reality journey with an underlying focus on peace with each step he takes.
